AdvantagesDrawbacks
  • Support included: Support is included in all our plans. You can fill an unlimited number of tickets on our support platform. Our Monopoly and IPO plans include premium support as well, a service to answer all your questions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Though premium support is only available to our highest plans, all plans are eligible to an emergency support option.
  • Automated updates: That's the main advantages of any SaaS, you don't have to worry about updates. Our engineers keeps improving Scalr software and you don't have to do anything.
  • Most up-to-date version: whereas new features are pushed in the Open-Source Scalr on a 45-day cycle release, new features are added to Hosted Scalr on a daily basis. It means you will always use the most up-to-date and stable version of Scalr.
  • No installation required: you just need to provide your credentials to start using Scalr.
  • High availability: Hosted Scalr service is distributed across multiple datacenters for high availability.
  • Limited deployment: the hosted version of Scalr does not allow you to deploy Scalr on your own infrastructure.
  • Source code: you cannot modify the source code of the software if you have specific requirements or internal compliance policy.

Open-Source Scalr

Introduction

We want to make Scalr a low-risk, no brainer choice for managing your cloud infrastructure. That's why every 45 days, we release publicly the source code of Hosted Scalr and make it available for download on our website. This source code is what we call Open-Source Scalr. Released under the Apache 2 license, you have the freedom to deploy Open-Source Scalr wherever you want. Please note that support is not included and you will have to install Open-Source Scalr yourself.

Enterprise Scalr

Introduction

Enterprise Scalr is designed for companies which want the freedom of Open-Source Scalr along with the security and expertise of our support team. More precisely, Enterprise Scalr will use the same source code as Open-Source Scalr but our engineering team will help you installing it on your own data-centers, along with providing support on a contract basis.

In a nutshell, Enterprise Scalr = Open-Source Scalr + Support. Enterprise Scalr includes two types of contract:

  • service contract (mandatory): We perform updates and maintenance of Enterprise Scalr software on the infrastructure for every new version (based on a 45 day cycle release).
  • support contract (optional): We provide a Service Level Agrement for bug fixes. It covers Scalr-managed instances, and Enterprise Scalr software. The pricing of this contract is dependent on the number of servers and the the level of support.
